Save the Pigments Initiative

The tattoo world is trembling. For several months now, the alarm has been sounded: the European Union plans to ban several additives and pigments used in the composition of inks from 4 January 2022. Blue 15 and Green 7 are particularly targeted. To understand the impact of this law, you have to imagine reducing the range of colours available by half. How many tattoo artists will be able to continue to express themselves freely under these conditions? This law, which mentions "mutagenic, carcinogenic or toxic risks", is not based on any specific scientific data. Nor does it take into account the experience of professionals and the reality of their observations over the past decades. A petition is currently circulating to denounce this decision. Launched on the initiative of tattoo artists Michl Dirks and Erich Mänhert, it has already been signed by over 160,000 people. While strict enforcement of the law may take a little longer, giving manufacturers the opportunity to find substitutes, 2022 will be a pivotal year in which it will be essential to continue to make the protest heard. So whether you're a tattooist, a tattoo distributor, a studio worker, a convention organiser, etc., if you love tattoos and haven't done so already, speak out and sign up too.
