Floating West

It's a little treasure unearthed by tattoo artist Nick York and published by Derin Bray and his publisher Rake House under the title: "Floating West: Antique Japanese Tattoo Flash from the Collection of Nick York". The book is in fact a reproduction of a tattoo flash pattern book that belonged to a Japanese tattooist in the early 20th century. The book, which fell into the hands of an amateur tattooist in Arkansas at the time, is now available to all lovers of Japanese tattooing, tattoo history and curiosities. Reproduced in its entirety, one discovers with wonder the oriental motifs available at the time on the silk sheets of the notebook, classics of Japanese imagery (dragon, geisha, snake) painted by hand and proposed there in the form of flashes, out of the context of the great figurative compositions usually observed in the style.

A text accompanies the reproductions, in which the authors tell us the history of this fascinating object that we can discover today, thanks to the hazards of history and the detours of adventure. 64 pages / 50€ + https://www.rakehouse.com IG Rake House : @rakehouse IG Nick York : @prof.york IG Derin Bray : @derinbray
