It's an understatement to say that vanity inspires tattoo artists and tattooed people alike. One only has to open Instagram to see the omnipresence of the skull motif in the feed. The ephemeral nature of existence has inspired artists since time immemorial. Over the centuries, its treatment has led to a considerable production of works. The French Musée des Beaux-Arts in Lyon has gathered 160 of them for its new exhibition "À la mort, à la vie! Vanities of yesterday and today" in a wide variety of genres and themes (prints, drawings, engravings, paintings, sculptures) treated between the 16th and 21st centuries, presented according to a thematic path (macabre dances, the ages of life, etc.). Born in reaction to the conflicts and epidemics of their time in Europe, these works remind us of the need to enjoy the little time we have. An evocation that is all the more necessary today with the return of war to Europe. To be discovered until 7 May 2022. www.mba-lyon.fr
