THE TATTOO INVADES THE « MUSÉE DU LUXEMBOURG » IN PARIS AND PAYS TRIBUTE TO ALPHONSE MUCHA

On Pascal Bagot’s initiative, a journalist specialised in the tattoo press, the idea to invite tattoo artists to take over the museum in the 6th district of Paris was born. A short-lived exhibition of tattoo photos on the theme of Mucha and a performance by Henrik Grysbjerg was organized for the occasion. (Saturday november 24, 2018)

Alphonse Mucha is a painter, poster designer and illustrator of Czech origin from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He became famous by creating posters for Sarah Bernhardt's shows and later on was the most recognized Art Nouveau artist. His drawings, which have strong lines and background ornaments, are a perfect match for tattoos. A tattoo, in order to endure time and sunlight, needs contrast and clear lines. Mucha becomes a real source of inspiration for tattoo artists all over the world. And the many works presented at the event prove it.

On this occasion a performance around tattooing was realized by Henrik Grysbjerg, a famous tattoo artist from Toulouse. For nearly three hours he customized the exhibition’s poster with a superb Japanese dragon using a graphic tablet projected on a large screen.

In addition to Alphonse Mucha's superb exhibition, we were able to admire photos of tattoos made by Samoth, Lionel Mr Biz, Alix Gé, Roberto Dardini, Easy Sacha among others. Many tattoo artists were there regardless of wether they were participating in the event or not. A very nice evening which also allowed us to visit the Mucha exhibition. Our thanks go to Pascal Bagot for this great moment. DHK
